Tren Urbano is the Heavy Rail Transit System of San Juan (Puerto Rico). As a Territory of the United States, Tren Urbano is under the jurisdiction of the Federal Transit Association (FTA).
Design, Built and Startup took place in the years 1997 till 2004 and is one of the most advanced Mass Transit Systems world-wide. The Automatic Train Regulation System has put Tren Urbano consistently in first position of On-time performance amongst the United States Mass Transit Systems.
Rail IT® provides ongoing support to the Operations and Maintenance Organization (AHJV, a joint venture of Alternate Concepts, Inc. and Herzog Inc.) of Tren Urbano in the following areas:
- Operations Control Center (OCC) Systems Enhancements and extensions
- OCC Assessments and Recommendations for midterm and longterm upgrades
- Systems-wide assessment for obsolescence and development of mitigation / upgrade strategies.
(Systems included OCC, SCADA, Substation Protection system, Communications, Radio, Passenger Information Systems, CCTV, Fare Collection Systems, and others) - Design and Coordination of OCC System upgrades and Component upgrades
- Design Review of Subsystems upgrade provided by third party suppliers.
Following Hurricane Marie, Rail IT provided critical support to Tren Urbano Operations & Maintenance (ACI-PR) in resuming revenue service. Support included replacement and re-installation/upgrades of irreparable systems and components.
